Rare. Virginia Mining District (printed to the left of vignette). Incorporated in May of 1863. #71, issued for 25 shares to P. F. W. Black on Feb. 2, 1864 in Virginia [City]. Signed by president F. J. Miller and secretary C. A. Shaney. Not cancelled. Black border (trimmed tight), black print and three vignettes: circular mine hoisting scene by Loomis (center), arm with hammer (bottom center), and woman sitting in a chair by Loomis (left border). Towne & Bacon Printers. Pinholes, fold creases, bottom right corner missing. Found no information on this mine in Nevada reference books, the Internet or the Nevada Historical Society. F. J. Miller is listed as a cabinet maker with Wolf & Co. on the Comstock. Shaney is listed as a tailor and a secretary for mining companies. Shaney arrived in August of 1863 by wagon train. He was a longtime resident and tailor of Virginia City. He was a survivor of two major fires at his work in just over one year. Research on Shaney, Miller & Loomis.
