The prolific Dr. G. G. Wilkins counter stamped many coins in his career, we believe starting in 1857 or 1858 in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. This 1858 Flying Eagle cent is stamped "G. G. Wilkins" and the "Dr." is not seen. Q. David Bowers wrote "The Strange Career of Dr. G. G. Wilkins," in 1986, and described the dentist as a "rascal" who also operated a saloon with a caged bear in front, was suspected of passing counterfeit money and was arrested for hiring someone to burn down a neighbor's barn. Bowers noted F. G. Duffield wrote an article in the August 1921 Numismatist about the Doctor. [
