This powder flask is measured in drams of black powder indicating that this was a powder flask for muzzleloading shotguns. It is plain and may have had a leather cover when new. The time period would be 1840's-1875 for the marked "G & J.W. Hawksley" (of London) flask. The main body is metal while the spout is brass and is screw-on; the screws are iron. The spout is adjustable from 3 drams to 4 drams of black powder for 12 gauge and 10 gauge shotguns prior to shotgun shells. The Hawksley name is contained in a cartouche on the top flat and noted for their superior quality flasks as this one is in nearly perfect condition. C. 1870's. Please see photo for details. [
