Nevada territorial deposit of Silver Bars (bullion crossed out) deposited for the Savage Mining Company in Virginia City, Nevada from J.H. Dalls on March 9, 1864. The Dalls Mill was located in Washoe Valley at Franktown. Four bars, ranging in size from 866.7 to 945.3 ounces, all .948 or higher fineness in silver. Total value is about $5,600. Signed by Bell at the bottom. Folds, 2.5" tape repair over heavy soiling patch at top left. According to the General History & Resources of Washoe County, Nevada (1888), J.H. Dall & Co. built the quartz mill at Franktown in 1861, the largest in the country at that point, at a cost of $250,000. It had 60 stamps (40 dry crushing, 20 wet crushing), and its bullion output was 25% greater than the other mills. It burned down in 1865, was rebuilt, and burned down again. This publication credits the loss of Dalls Mill as a major contributing factor for Franktown's downfall.
