Gorgeous Western pass. No. 223, issued for 1875 to T.C. Owen, general manager of B&S RR Co. Signed by HB Anderson as general manager. Printed on cardstock by Rand, Avery & Co, Boston. Fabulous vignette of Native American warrior on horseback at center with sun rays extending out into an ornate title. Some toning. Originally the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway Company, they changed names to Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio on July 27, 1870. The Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado was the first railroad to begin operating in Texas, the first part of the Southern Pacific Transportation Company to begin operating, and the second railroad west of the Mississippi River.
