Number 434 to NH Hotchkiss, solicitor, Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. 1876. Major Hotchkiss was born in New York and moved to Virginia about 1859. He is best known for his connection with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. He was a pioneer in the movement to bring about a better understanding between the estranged North and South by organizing an excursion of Northern newspapermen South. [Obituary] The Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway Company was chartered on February 11, 1850, as the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway Company. Its name was changed on July 27, 1870. The Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado was the first railroad to begin operating in Texas. Paper is glued to the back.
