1) In 1780 Jean Gambier from Dieppe came to Givet in the French Ardennes and set up the Gambier clay pipe manufacture. In 1817 his son Joseph took over and it is around that time that the characteristically French figural pipe bowls appeared. Spotting, otherwise nice condition. 2) 7" long by 3" high, by 1.75" diameter. Scene seems to be a fort with a flag flying high!
