A set of 55 highly detailed engravings depicting 19th century actors in their roles in various theatrical settings, many from Shakespearian plays such as Romeo & Juliet, Othello, and MacBeth. The black and white images are 6.5 x 9.25 inches printed on 11.75 x 17 inch heavy paper pages. Titles often name the actor and the role or just the name of the play with the Act and Scene numbers. Condition of each print varies from very good to worn with some foxing and staining item to item, but all are worthy of display and framing. A few have short tears, worn or missing edges, but all the images appear to be in good shape. These were published by Gebbie & Co. and Gebbie & Husson Co. in 1887, 1888, and 1890. The Library Company of Philadelphia notes that George Gebbie (Scotland, 1832 - 1892, Philadelphia) was a publisher of fine art books with offices in New York and Philadelphia. He first emigrated from Scotland to Utica, New York, in 1863, then relocated to Philadelphia in 1866. He published under the names Gebbie & Co., Gebbie & Husson Co., and Gebbie & Barries.
