This is a bond signed by Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. It's for $500 and issued in 1866 by New York City, while the general, revolutionist, president and dictator was living in New York in exile. While he schemed to depose Emperor Maximillian, he issued these bonds in hopes of regaining power. It was during one of these attempts that he was captured and sentenced to death. He was eventually released and allow to retire to New York. We know him because of his successes in Texas and Goliad and the Alamo. He died in New York in poverty . This bond is uncancelled and in excellent condition with no folds. Santa Anna signature is boldly displayed in lower righthand corner. Please see photos for more details.
