According to the Carson Valley News (Nov. 31, 1876), "The Genoa Flume Co. have done Genoa Canyon. They commenced operations three years ago, and during the intervening time have flumed 52,700 cords of wood from that mountain gorge down the Carson river to Empire." Wood was milled at Empire and then shipped up for use in the mines at Virginia City & Gold Hill. Rare.
