Interesting group of 3 assay reports from Rogers showing the variability of the companies submitting deposits and samples for assay, ranging from 31 to 62 ozs of gold. 1868 W H Dunbar. 1868 Hobart Dunbar Co., did business in Reno and Tahoe surrounding areas, Hobart was a timber magnate and this may have been from a mine on some of his property. 1869 Millikin Bros. Assay Office of Geo. E. Rogers, Successor to G.W. Bell. G.W. Bell had an assay office in the Wells Fargo office on California St. On April 16, 1866, a nitroglycerine explosion killed Bell along with 15 others and nearly leveled half a city block. A leaking box was brought in on an Eastern steamer and sent to the WF office for storage. This disaster swayed public opinion about nitroglycerine and caused Wells Fargo to no longer carry it in their coaches. San Francisco California Franklin Collection
