First in the American Indian Series of Collector's Plates from the Geo. Washington Mint, this is a 6-troy-ounce Sterling silver plate with a 12-ounce brass bas relief of a Crow scout named Curley adapted from an original design by American sculptor and medalist Edward W. Sawyer (1876-1932). The plate comes in a felt-lined, sturdy cardboard box with Certificate and Provenance. See photo for design details. Second item in the lot is the First in Remington's American West Series of Collector's Plates from the Geo. Washington Mint. It is a bas-relief representation of a recognizable piece by Frederic Remington called The Rattlesnake. The obverse is highly reminiscent of Medallic Art Company's item MACo 1971-038-005, and the reverse of the plate has a striking resemblance to the reverse of Medallic Art Company item MACo 1971-038-001 which were part of a series of ten medallions produced by MACo for the 21 Club in New York City and designed by Avard Fairbanks from originals by Frederic Remington. However, the plate in this lot was produced by Geo. Washington Mint in 1972. This plate is described as weighing 22 ounces of Sterling silver, giving the lot of two plates a total of 28 ounces of Sterling or 23.9 ounces of contained silver.
