A right hook miners candlestick with the name "George Bell" stamped on the outside edge. Potentially made by Ludlow-Saylor. Unfortunately, George Bell is a common name. There were at least four different George Bells in California in the 1880-90s who were miners. we found none as blacksmiths, and none as miners during that period in Colorado. George Bell could refer to an Australian prospector and mine-manager who likely came to America and died in Pennsylvania in 1898. Likely did not belong to assayer George Bell of San Francisco who was killed by a nitroglycerin explosion in his office. The hook is moderately tall and beveled and the handle is unattached and beveled on each side. Missing a thumb lever. Has seen little use as most of original finish is still on stick. A very nice and important piece! 14.25 inches long. State: City: Date: ID#46552
