Signed, "George R" twice, once on each side. One side is headed "Establishment of the Forces and Garrison of Gibraltar" and lists expense allotments for 477 men. The other side is headed "The Charge of the Garrison of Gibraltar." At the bottom of the document are three additional signatures: "Townshend, Beauchamp and C.W. Cornwall." These three men worked together as the Treasurers and Commissioners of Britain from 1774 to 1777. This document had to have been written during this time. The Great Siege of Gibraltar occurred in 1779, with Spain and France allied against Britain to take over the Rock. This amazing document, in which King George is funding both the fight in America along with the troops at Gibraltar is rare and the first we've seen. 19 x 11 1/2 inches. City: State: Date:
