Archive of about 30 pieces. Includes: 1) Thirteen billheads, 9 varieties, 1876-1902. Seven identify him as the proprietor. The earliest is for Thaxter's lumber business that was operating at Lake Tahoe (Glenbrook Planing Mill and Lumber Yard). The others highlight the sale of "Field, Flower and Garden Seeds." The remaining six billheads are for the "Thaxter's Drug Store", now run by HK Brown and JM Johnson. 2) Four different checks, 1875-1900, two issued to Thaxter, two issued by the Thaxter Drug Store. 3) 1890s prescription. 4) Five Bullion & Exchange Bank deposit slips for Thaxter & Co., 1878-1887. 5) Two Bullion & Exchange deposit ledgers, 1890s, for the Thaxter Drug Store. 6) Misc. other pieces including an 1883 State Controller's Warrant to Thaxter; a cabinet card for the Royal Cabinet, "Over Thaxter's Drug Store"; and two pieces of correspondence (Colgate & Company and Whitall, Tatum & Co., 1894-1896). George Thaxter came to Nevada in 1870 and spent about 8 years in the lumber business at Glenbrook (Lake Tahoe). In 1878, he bought OP Willis' drug store in Carson and began a business that lasted for more than 20 years, changing proprietors in 1890s (as evidenced by the billheads in this group). He was a prominent Carson City citizen and served in local politics. In 1893, he moved to Redlands, CA to open a new drug store. The many varieties of his drug bottles, as well as a more detailed history, is discussed in the Nevada Bottle Book Volume II.
