Vol. I, p. 243: ìThe Directory of Nevada City and Grass Valley for 1861 contains the advertisement of George W. Kidd, Banker, located in the ëGranite building on Broad Street, Nevada City. He was an assayer as well as a banker, which was of course the rather customary practice of bakers in the mining districts. On May 9th, 1865, an advertisement in the Nevada Daily Gazette: Sale of Banking House and Assay Office, G.W. Kidd to Hinds & Tully. From the Stockton Dailey independent Oct. 12, 1867: ìCOMING to STOCKTON ñ The Nevada 'Transcript' thus introduces 2 gentlemen whom we welcome to our midst: ìJ.W. HINDS, of the banking house of George W. KIDD & Co., goes to Stockton to take charge of the banking business to be opened in that city on the 15th inst., under the firm name of Kidd, Hinds & Co. Captain KIDD recently purchased a fine building in that city and has fitted up an elegant banking house. These gentlemen are thoroughly acquainted with the business, are reliable and accommodating, and backed by ample capital for sure business. We commend them to the citizens of San Joaquin Valley.
