$100 certificate of Stock for Georgetown Railroad Company, cert. #1 issued to Rucker Hodges on Aug 19, 1878. Assigned. Signed by Moses. E. Steele, Sec & Treas and Emzy Taylor, pres. Raised company seal, printed on beige paper. Original Georgetown Railroad Co. was chartered on May 31, 1878, to build a railroad the approx. 10 miles between Georgetown and Round Rock. About $50,000 raised in first offering, by the end of 1878. Connection made between Georgetown and Round Rock. Railroad had financial difficulties and sold in foreclosure on Aug. 5, 1879, bought by International-Great Northern Railroad. Purchased the Georgetown and operations merged with that company in 1882. In 1959 sold to new Georgetown Railroad Company. This company was incorp. on July 25, 1958, and it acquired 8 miles of the Georgetown branch of the Missouri Pacific Railroad. On June 3, 1991, the Georgetown Railroad bought portion of the Belton Railroad. Began operating as its Belton Subdivision. Printed by: "Sun". Prag collection.
