Dated February 23, 1854. Nathaniel N. Allen is appointing to J. Milligan as his special attorney to transfer 23 shares of the Georgia Rail Road and Banking Company. Signed by Allen. Measures 5" x 7" Pinholes, folds, and some light foxing. The Georgia Railroad Company was chartered in 1833 to build a railroad from Athens to Augusta. Banking was added in 1836. This proved to be the more rewarding business, so they leased their railroading operations and became one of the strongest banks in Georgia. [Ref: http://railga.com/georgia.html] (Prag Collection)
