This six page document is titled: "Ten Years and Twenty Days: Epilogue" and delivered May 16, 1945. It is the farewell funeral speech for Captain Wolfgang Lueth, the most decorated U-Boat commander during WW2. The speech is written (and signed) by Admiral Karl Donitz of the Germany Navy. The title "Ten Years and Twenty Days" refers to the time Doniz commanded in the German Navy before surrendering to the Allied Forces and he is the head of the German state until his arrest on May 23, 1945. Cpt. Lueth a highly decorated and respected officer at the German Naval Academy is accidentally shot and killed by a guard for not identifying himself. The password for the day was "Tannenberg" which Lueth failed to deliver. Others speculate that he was shot while intoxicated or committed suicide knowing that he would stand trial for war crimes against humanity. Not surprising, the author, Admiral Donitz, was sentenced to 11 years 6 months for his contributions to the Third Reich; for war crimes by the rest of the world. Donitz is unrepentant for serving his country but openly recognizes Germany's political failures. Signed "Donitz". Typed in English; a must-read for historians.
