Wooden Gavel, presumably from a tree at the Gettysburg battlefield site. The Battle of Gettysburg (1863) has produced many relics and collectables over the years. This specific piece has seen extensive use, and has what appears to be a lead bullet in the side. The gavel head has specific printed wording, still visible:" Gettysburg, July 3, 1863, Wood from Little Round Top." Some minor cracks, varnish worn off the handle, about 10.5" long, head measures appox. 4.25" long x 2" in diameter. Please inspect. This is a marvelous Gettysburg artifact. The third photo shows the wording on the gavel head in old-style black print.
The confederate forces attacked the Union forces at Little Round Top on July 2, 1863. This appears to be a post-civil war artifact, but also appears to be 19th century.
