A collection of 64 postcards featuring the Gibson Girls, the artwork of Charles Dana Gibson. Cancel dates c1904-07.
Gibson (1867-1944) portrayed pen-and-ink illustrations of the feminine ideal of physical attractiveness during a 20-year period that spanned the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The artist saw his creation as representing the composite of "thousands of American girls". He published his illustrations in major national publications for more than 30 years, becoming editor in 1918 and later owner of Life magazine. [] [] [] [] []
