Lot of 6, three different "Martin" companies represented. Each pair includes an issued piece and a specimen. These show the evolution of the company. 1) The Glenn L. Martin Company. Two different stocks: one specimen and one issued in 1954. Both punch cancelled. Same allegorical vignette of giant bare-breasted woman holding an airplane. 2) The Martin Company. Two different stocks: one specimen and one issued in 1960. Both punch cancelled. Same vignette as previous. 3) Martin-Marietta Corporation. Two stocks: one specimen and one issued in 1969. Martin Company was an aircraft and aerospace manufacturing company founded by aviation pioneer Glenn L. Martin. The Martin Company produced many important aircraft for the US military, especially during World War II and the Cold War. During the 1950s and 60s, the Martin Company shifted focus into the guided missile, space exploration, and space utilization industries. In 1961, the Martin Company merged with American-Marietta Corporation to form the Martin Marietta Corporation.
