4.7 oz. net wt. Freeport container of gold bearing ore from the Jerritt Canyon Mine of Elko, NV. This ore sample was taken in the 1980s before First Majestic acquired the mine in 2021. Jerritt Canyon is about 45 miles north of Elko. The deposit was discovered in 1972. Produced 9.8 million ounces of gold. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining friendly state of Nevada. Located about 45 miles north of the city of Elko in Elko County in northeastern Nevada, the Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972 and first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. This ore sample was taken in the 1980s, before First Majestic acquired it in 2021. It is not in production at this time, but during active mining, which began with open pit mining and later moved to underground mining, it produced 9.8 million ounces of gold.
