Number 6 issued on November 4, 1854. This is a very early number and very early general date. Issued to O. MacDaniel and signed by president O. MacDaniel. For 2,000 shares. Also signed by secretary I. T. Gleasen(?). This is a mystery stock certificate. We could not unquestionably place it. We found Gold Belt Mines in the west, but they were all 1900's. We did find an early 1860's Virginia Gold Belt Mine. But it had the word 'Virginia' in the title. It comes from a major Georgia archive! The only O. MacDaniel listed in the 1860 census is Osborne MacDaniel. He is living in New York and is a civil engineer. This would place this mining company on the east coast. However, this certificate is EARLY and needs someone with more time to research it and give it a proper home. Vignette is of an allegorical lady watching over a shipping fleet. (Hints of San Francisco or the eastern United States.) Very nice. Two dog eared corners. Some wrinkles. One pin hole. Sharp brown on white contrast.
