Gold button (ingot) made by John Stewart, a Nevada mining man who also sluiced for gold on weekends at Downieville, c 1945-55. This gold button is a result. It weighs 1.36 troy ozs, is 906 fine gold, 043 fine silver and 017 fine copper. Downieville is in the northern motehrlode in Sierra County, a key site where George Hearst had his first lode gold mine. When the Comstock discoveries were made, he sold his Le Compton mine there, used the cash to buy into the Ophir at Virginia City, and the rest is history.
