Archive of Walnut Creek firemen guy Fremont Spencer, circa 1918 to 1950. Fremont graduated from Mount Diablo high school in 1915 (diploma present). He participated in World War I with the aviation section of the signal Corps. In about July 1918 Spencer put out his first fire using an old Ford truck. Within a couple of years Raymond Spencer was appointed Fire Chief who made Guy Spencer and 30 others members of the Walnut Creek volunteer fire department. Guy Spencer was elected chief in 1921 and served in that capacity until 1924. That year the central fire protection District was formed, and Spencer was named chief of that district, where he remained until his retirement in 1954. This archive includes many photographs of Spencer from a young lad up through his senior retirement. There are several photos of Spencer wearing several of these badges if not all of the different badges. Also present are photos of Spencer's wife. Interesting contents include newspaper articles where Spencer was involved with fires and subsequent investigations of murders related to these fires particularly in 1925. The lot also includes his original Social Security card. There are three badges in this collection, all significant and important the first is a 14 karat gold engraved Deputy State fire Marshal walnut creek engraved on the back presented to Guy F Spencer by his friends 1924 his badge of course would represent his first. As chief from 1921 to 24. This badge is 28.3 g of 14 karat gold measuring 2.5" x 1.75". The second badge is Walnut Creek Central fire department, engraved 1921 to 1954 this badge's gold plate, measures 2.5" x 2". The third badge, the badge worn by Spencer in his latest photographs is a gold color badge which appears to be gold plate measuring 1.375" x 2". The group also contains a gold Masonic card. This important California fire badge and collectible archive is a wonderful addition to any major badge collection.
