Early promissory note for $1,596 in gold coin from the San Bernardino Ranch in the Arizona Territory. At this time the ranch was owned by the Ignacio Perez family, who had been troubled over the years by Indian raids on their cattle. In 1884, famous lawman, "Texas" John Slaughter and his wife Viola purchased the ranch from Perez, who were prevented from living on the ranch by the Apaches who had run them off. Slaughter made peace with the Indians, allowing them to slaughter some of his steers for food. The ranch is now a park and museum called "John Slaughter Ranch." Dated May 3, 1871 and in very readable condition. Please see photos for more detail and condition.
