Very interesting group of papers including two Territorial Stock certificates for Barnett Levison of New York (1832-1910). Levison emigrated from Germany in 1864, and went directly from New York to the Comstock. He was an officer of the Gold Hill Masonic Lodge. Barnett appears to have had a bit of mining fever, like most men of the period. After he left Nevada, he returned to new York for a period, then was off to Silver City New Mexico. Barnett never married, and left his estate to his brother's family, who inherited these papers. Thanks to great grand niece Carol Sicherman for the research. Included in this lot are his Gold Hill Masonic papers, various funeral and cremation certificates, and two Nevada Territorial stocks: Yolo Gold & Silver MC datelined Gold Hill district, Virginia City, April 16, 1864 issued to Barnett Levison for ten shares, signed by Wm M. Long as president No revenue stamps attached, certificate 151.A second Territorial certificate is for the Cherokee G&S MC, datelined Gold Hill, April 5, 1864 issued to Levison for ten shares and signed by him as president. the revenue stamp has been torn off at left.
