Rare Yuba County "Gold Lands". That 640 acres were sold to a company in London for $200,000!!! 1858 deed from John A Sutter (Sutter's Fort, etc.) to Sylvester Patrick and others 33 square feet of 640 acres of "Gold lands." This grant goes to Edward Lee Hooff. He immediately assigns it to Dr. A. Campbell who immediately turns it over to AB Hackney in March of 1859. Witness signatures include William Hille(?) an G Rippette(?). John Augustus Sutter, Sr. was a pioneer in the Yuba-Sutter area and elsewhere in northern California. Sutter applied for Mexican citizenship, and received it in 1840. In 1841, he received a land grant from the Mexican government of approximately 48,827 acres in the Sacramento Valley. He named his land New Helvetia, after the area of Switzerland that his family came from. In 1841, he established Hock Farm on the west bank of the Feather River, a few miles south of what is now South Yuba City. In 40 years we have never seen this document before. Rips at edges where the folds are. One old tape stain on back of document. Some foxing. Date: 1858 Location: Yuba County, California HWAC# 57406
