The Gold Mountain Mining District was located in Esmeralda on the Nevada / California border. It was situated in the northern slope of Gold Mountain west of Sarcobatus Flat and south of State Ridge; including the Oriental Wash. Discovered in 1866, it wasn't until 1871 when the rich Oriental Mine was found that the district gained notoriety. Several mills worked the ores and the concentrates were hauled to Austin or Belmont in the early days. Vignette of underground miners working. “Location of Mine, Gold Mountain District, Esmeralda County, Nevada,” printed beneath masthead. 2) State Line Gold Mining Company No. 2. Cert. #A3674, issued to LK Taylor for 50 shares. Vignette of 2 mounted prospectors and pack mule overlooking a valley. Miller Gold Mining Other information the same as above. 3) Miller Gold Mining Company number A3229 issued to HK Wilson for 50 shares. Signed by McCaulley, president, and D. Yerdenal, secretary. Vignette of miners underground working with various instruments and a team of horses. 6) Oriental Gold Mining Company, Cert. #A2233, issued to FK Cohn for 50 shares. Signed by Wm. McCaulley, vice president, and D. Yerdenal, secretary. Vignette of Miner with pick standing and gazing at hillside. All were issued in 1881 and all are uncancelled.
