"Madonna and Child" Benson Gulch Gold Nugget, 25.4g (0.81 troy). Sizeable gold nugget with pinkish brown quartz matrix tied up in the nugget, resembling a "Madonna and child" when viewed from a certain direction. Benson Gulch is near Goler Wash in Kern County, about 7 miles from Randsburg. The area is very remote, and little known to miners. Goler Wash was discovered by two miners crossing Death Valley in 1849. The area is very important for their early gold discoveries deep within the Mojave desert. [ Benson Gulch (Kern Co.) California
