Nice vignette of 4 miners working in tunnel. Dark gray ornate border. 8.75" x 11.5". Signed by President Robert Waring. 2 very small creases due to fold. Located in Placer County. The state sued the company in 1881 (then named Gold Run Ditch & Mining Company) for what looks like damage to the Sacramento River system. A Sacramento Daily Union article mentions that the Sacramento River may no longer be as navigable because of hydraulic mining practices farther upstream. The defendant denies that any deposits or tailings from their mines have reached the Sacramento from the American River and affected water levels or navigability. It appears the judge ruled against the mining company with the condition that the injunction would be lifted if the mine constructed dams to catch the coarse material.
