An important and circumstantial narrative of the 1845 plains emigration. Harlan traversed the wilderness as far as Fort Bridger, with the Donner party, where, by a lucky chance, he decided to go over the Fort Hall route, leaving the Donner party to attempt the famous cut-off, which cost so many lives. He became an active participant in the California Revolution describes the events of that war, life and adventures on the Coast during the Early Days, etc." 242 pp. 6" x 8.5". The author interviews old-timers in an attempt to resurrect and publish historical information lost in the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. 246 pp. 5" x 8". Bookplate: Arthur R. Andersen.
