Letter dated Sept, 12, 1857, signed by Jacob Ezekiel Secretary, acknowledging an active fire dept member, RN Van Brunt, as still being listed as active since 1850. On blue paper w/embossed seal of San Francisco Fire Dept. Jacob Ezekiel served as Lieutenant for Company J in Andrew Jackson Militia regiment. Joined the fire dept. where he became a prominent figure and eventually the Secretary of SFFD. He was also involved in a libel lawsuit as plaintiff against James E. Nuttman, Volunteer Chief .
