2 early Gold Rush stocks. Issued-1851 Ave Maria Gold Quartz Mine in Mariposa, CA. 1852 Philadelphia and California Mining with nice miners vignette. John C. Fremont was the president of tis company. # 2048 for 100 shares to Theodore Walter on September 28, 1852. Signed by president and secretary. Printer was Grattan at the corner of Third and Walnut. The central vignette depicts a mining scene representing the company's California operations. The Philadelphia and California Mining Company was founded in the same year on the basis of a land lease from John Fremont in the area of the Mariposa River. Although Fremont leased out mining claims to many companies, this is one of the very few he had a hand in. A rare piece of mining ephemera. No corner, edge or pin hole issues. Very nice!
