Captain Josiah P Creesy. Captain Josiah P. Creesy, a well known sea captain, died at his residence in Salem, on Sunday evening, after a protracted illness. Among the many prominent shipmasters who formerly sailed from Boston none acquired greater celebrity for skillful navigation and the happy faculty of making rapid voyages than Captain Creesy. He was uniformly successful on the ocean, and by his superior qualifications he obtained the command of some of the noted clipper ships which, some years ago, on their first introduction into the mercantile service, achieved a world wide renown for their remarkable sailing qualities. While in command of the ship Flying Cloud, Capt. Creesy made the shortest passage on record between New York and San Francisco, and the time then made has never since been excelled. During the late war he was appointed to take charge of the United States gunboat Ino, in which he served with credit. [Obituary in Salem newspaper]. Coleman's California Line.
