William Biggs archive. Six handwritten legal Gold Rush documents from Grass Valley c1861. Includes sale of the Scotch Mining claim located in Mac Clintock Ranch on Pike Flat (with implements), sale of the Last Chance Mining Company, mining ground (placer) on Wolf Creek, sale of the Independent Mining Company, etc. Wolf Creek and William Biggs, miner, play heavily in these documents. William Biggs (1816-1880) was born in England and made his way to California to seek his fortune in the Gold Rush. He became a major figure in the Empire Mining District which included Wolf Creek. Placer gold was first found in Wolf Creek in 1848 shortly after Marshall's discovery at Coloma.
