This gold signet ring, size 8.5, weighs 6.58 grams (0.211 ozt) and bears the initial SS on the small shield-shaped cartouche. Oddly, the initials are engraved sideways on the shield rather than horizontally within it. This means the letters would be more easily read looking from the side of the finger rather along it. The shoulders of the ring are ornamented with a rough texture similar to a gold nugget, and there are two hearts, one on each side of the shank. There is no engraving on the inside circumference of the ring. Was this possibly Samuel Shreve's personal ring? Lot includes his passenger receipt, #24 in First Cabin. Recovered in 2014 from the port-side debris field, Coin Pile #2. Please see special article about Samuel Shreve in the catalog.
