A bill of lading for One Box of Treasure aboard the Pacific Mail Steamship Company's ship, Golden Age, c1860, bound for Panama from San Francisco. The cargo is listed as Gold Coin, value = Ten Thousand Dollars, with the customer listed as H.S.H. Has a wax seal with initials GTG, Geo. T Grimes, who shipped and inspected the treasure box which was to be delivered to Henry L. Haller Esq. Signed by the commander of the ship, W. Watkins. With California State Tax Bill of Lading seal. The Pacific Mail Steamship Company was founded April 18, 1848. It was established to carry U.S. mail on the Pacific leg of a transcontinental route via Panama. SS Golden Age was built for New York & Australian Navigation Company in 1853, she operated in Australian coastal services until 1854. She was purchased by the Pacific Mail Steamship Company in August 1854, she entered the San Francisco to Panama City service in October 1854 and continued until 1869. Later transferred to the Yokohama to Shanghai service, she was sold to Mitsubishi Mail Steamship Company in 1875 and renamed Hiroshima Maru. [ California
