Fabulous metal handbag for a very fancy woman to carry to very fancy occasions. Approx. 2" x 3" No markings on purse itself. Original box (2 x 3.5 x 5") has raised silk fitted interior and is trimmed in a delicate rose and white silk rope. Has red silk gold stamped ribbon on inside top of lid with, "W. Manning, Virginia, Nev." Mint & Unused! Advertisements for William Manning appear in Virginia City and Reno newspapers from 1877 to 1879. He is listed as a jeweler in Virginia City in the 1880 census. Manning is not listed it the 1871/72 Nevada Directory or the 1874/1875 V&T Directory. As early as 1882 he is listed in the San Francisco Directory as a jeweler. This puts him in Virginia City from about 1876 to 1881. State: Nevada City: Virginia City Date: c1878 FHWAC#: 42639
