Hundreds of items of all types for the 1939-1940 Golden Gate Exposition held in San Francisco. The expo. celebrated the completion of three structures that are featured all over this collection: the Golden Gate Bridge, Treasure Island, and the Bay Bridge. The theme of the expo. was "Pageant of the Pacific," celebrating nations that bordered the Pacific Ocean. This Pacific theme influenced the architecture. Treasure Island was built for the fair and was going to be used an as airport after, but was instead used by the U.S. Navy as a base during World War II. The fair was initially open February to October 1939 but was not a financial success due to the Great Depression. It was reopened for a second round in 1940.
