Designed and issued by Jules L. Charbneau, San Francisco fine arts appraiser and dealer. Total pieces struck for 1939 and 1940 were 2,500 Gold. They were originally offered for $5. According to Jeff Shevlin, sales were so disappointing that the bulk of entire issue was melted down. Obverse: Tower and exposition grounds, bridge in background; above, around "Golden Gate Int. Exposition"; below tower: 1939. Reverse: bust of Pacifica, "Queen" of fair, taken from her full statue, located on grounds at entrance to Cavalcade of the Golden West exhibit. Beneath bust: 10K/ SOLID GOLD. Comes in original Charbneau box (645 Stockton St., San Francisco, Calif.). Hairline scratches to obverse. Wear to presentation box.
