Location printed around logo: Gopher District, Calaveras County, Cal. No. 42, issued for 10 shares to C.L. Harington on Feb. 24, 1864 in San Francisco. Signed by president Isaac Swain and secretary Poke (?). Not cancelled. Vignette of mine/mill. Printed by Robbins & Co's Print, SF. 5.5 x 9.5" Folds, some toning around edges, bent corner, and missing corner. Otherwise very clean. Not in Filer. There was a Gopher Hill Mine (Gopher Ridge) located at Telegraph City on the divide between Buckham Gulch and Copper Gulch in Calaveras County that operated in the 1920s and 1930s. Gopher Ridge near Copperopolis was the site of a copper discovery in 1860 by Hiram Hughes. Isaac Swain is listed as a stock broker in the Langley 1864 & 1865 Directories. This was likely a Copperopoils claim. More research is needed. (Al Adams Gold Rush Memorabilia Collection) Date: Location: Calaveras County, California HWAC# 58432
