Silver Mountain was noted for their large Scandinavian population - rare in western mining camp. Good Hope was located on West bank of Carson River. An the article in 1864 reports that a 30' shaft had been commenced "some time since" but abandoned when they hit a "superabundance of water"; sup't. Henry Morris started a new tunnel and was now in 170 feet, heavily timbered, and expected to strike the ledge about 150' from the shaft; favorable comparisons made at Thornton's office to ore from Gold Hill and Reese River (1864 Sept 17 MG).
