Letter (3pp) and cover sent from Good Land, Choctaw Nation to Atoka, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, in 1886. Manuscript Good Land, C.N. The letter is addressed to Dr. JS Lankford from Mrs. HE Turnbull. Content discusses recent bad news and crimes committed by her brother Will. It seems to involve his wife who he claimed was dead but then showed up in the Chickasaw Nation. The brother then presented a different woman as his wife. Another crime is hinted at, but not spelled out. Possibly this involved a murder! We could not quickly locate details with newspaper searches. Harriet E. Willard Turnbull (1844-1918) was the wife of the Rev. John P. Turnbull, who ran the Presbyterian Church and the Goodland Academy in Goodland, OK. She was white, and her husband was Choctaw. This letter relates to crimes committed by her brother William F. Willard (1840-1917).
