Scarce Bodie stock issued in 1881 and printed by Grafton T. Brown. Number 4933 for 100 shares to GB Bayley trustee. Signed by secretary Charles C Harvey and president FGJ Margetson(?). Dated January 31, 1881. Not cancelled. Two small mining vignettes. Assessment stamps 8-13 on back. Folds, pinholes. Grafton Tyler Brown was one of the first African American lithographers in the American West during the mid to late 19th Century. He was one of the first to illustrate views of California and the Pacific Coast. He also created the 2 earliest bird's eye views of Virginia City. By the time he was 26, Brown owned his own firm located in San Francisco. Our company has sold ore specimens from the Goodshaw.
