A rare find in the Comstock check archive we have been processing. This 1872 Gould & Curry check is issued to "M. Ming" for $35. Signed by CC Batterman, supt. Not endorsed on the reverse. RN-B17b imprinted revenue. We were unable to find out who this Chinese merchant was, as they are not included in the relevant directories. The Chinese played a crucial role on the Comstock, just as they had in many Western mining camps. Their association with the Virginia & Truckee Railroad was challenged numerous times by white members of the Comstock community.
