Dateline Virginia, Nev. Nov. 8, 1866. Check made out to Richard Kerman for $18.75. Richard Kerman appears in the 1880 census as living in Virginia City, with a son born in 1877 also named Richard. The son went on to become the 17th governor of Nevada. The correct spelling of the last name--misspelled on both this check and in the census--was Kirman. Interesting piece! Orange 2 cent Nevada revenue attached over 2 cent US revenue bank check stamp. Signed by Janin as supt. Spindle hole and folds.
