Here is a special Comstock stock certificate. Number 6414 for 8 shares on December 28, 1869. Issued to Chaumond (?) trustee and signed by president Alpheus Bull. Certificate has been cancelled (1871) in red ink and president and secretary's names have been hole punched. Wrinkled, some edge nicks, holes throughout and bottom left corner torn. Four assessment stamps and two 1870 dividends stamps on back. Still an early issue of a major Comstock mine. [Middleton Gould & Curry Collection] The Gould & Curry was claimed in 1859 and was located between the Best & Belcher and Savage. Production from this mine from 1860 to 1881 was over $15,000,000. Bull was an itinerant Midwest preacher. He came to California in 1849. On the way he befriended the Grosh brothers. He made a fortune at Red Bluff in mining and then in the mercantile business. Was the president of the Gould & Curry for most of the 1860's and a California millionaire. (Short biography on Bull and notes on Gould & Curry.)
