Incorporated in 1863. Certificate No. 144 issued in October 11, 1864 to J.A. Byers for 5 shares. Signed by secretary J.A. Byers and president John Bigler. U/C. Printed by Lithography of George H. Baker. Certificate measures 8.25"x4". Stock is worn along edges and has some minor tearing on the edges and in the center along a fold line. Not only was he the first governor two serve two consecutive terms, but he was also responsible for the moving of the capital to Sacramento and the development of the railroad from Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean. Bigler was so well-loved that a lake was named after him. That lake has since been renamed Lake Tahoe [http://www.nga.org].
